Project Overview
John Lewis HQ at One Drummond Gate, Pimlico, London, required a large-scale window film removal and replacement project to ensure continued safety and performance. The existing silver safety film on the south and west elevations had reached the end of its service life, while the north-facing ground floor glazing required an urgent replacement due to visible failure. The project also included installing frosted manifestation bands across multiple office floors.
Scope of Work
- Removal & Replacement of Silver Safety Film
- The combined silver safety film was removed and replaced on all floors of the south and west elevations with Opalux Silver Safety Combined 200-micron film.
- Total area covered: 770m²
- Replacement of Failing Safety Film on the Ground Floor (North Elevation)
- The existing film had deteriorated, requiring urgent replacement to maintain safety compliance.
- The film was removed and replaced with Opalux 175-micron Clear Bomb Blast Film.
- Total area covered: 140m²
- Installation of Frosted Manifestation Bands
- A 1.0m high frosted manifestation band was installed on all glazed offices across levels 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
- Total length installed: 125 linear metres.
Challenges and Execution
Due to the nature of the work, all installations and film removals had to be conducted outside of normal working hours to avoid disruption to the office environment. The team efficiently managed logistics, ensuring that all waste materials were removed from the site and recycled wherever possible.
Outcome
The completed project restored the glazing's safety compliance, providing enhanced protection and durability with the newly installed films. The client was pleased with the seamless execution and professional approach, particularly in working outside business hours to minimise disruption.
